Functional Analytic Psychotherapy Training - Level One

An experiential online training designed to help therapists develop greater awareness, courage, and therapeutic presence in their clinical work through the principles of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy.

Upcoming Training Session
Starting March 16th (8 Weeks)
Mondays 11am-1pm EST

Why This Training Matters

Therapists are often trained to analyze problems and implement interventions, but are less often taught how to bring their full, genuine selves into the room. Yet, research shows that real therapeutic change is often rooted in moments of authentic human connection. Many clinicians want to feel more confident in these moments but struggle to know where to begin or how to use them effectively in sessions.

Dr Piotr Suchanek

Piotr Suchanek is an experienced psychologist and contextual
behavioral therapist. He specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), combining extensive clinical practice with a strong theoretical foundation.

He has experience in designing psychological workshops and mindfulness courses grounded in ACT and FAP, as well as delivering them to psychology students, psychotherapy trainees, and mental health professionals.

A Foundation in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy

This Level One training introduces the principles of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), an evidence-based approach that views the therapeutic relationship itself as a powerful tool for healing. Over the course of eight weeks, you’ll learn to cultivate awareness, courage, and therapeutic love through experiential practices, guided exercises, and collaborative reflections with fellow participants. By the end of the program, you’ll understand not only the theory behind FAP but also how to begin applying it in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.

What This Training Includes

Sessions combine conceptual learning with experiential exercises to deepen understanding and practical skills. Each week builds upon the previous, helping you recognize relational patterns—your own and your clients’—while learning to shape them toward growth and connection. You’ll engage in group discussions, receive real-time feedback, and complete personal reflection assignments designed to expand both your clinical skills and self-awareness.

What You’ll Gain by the End

By completing Level One training, you will:

  • Understand the theoretical foundations of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy.
  • Use functional analysis to link client challenges outside of therapy to their in-session behaviors.
  • Identify how your own learning history influences your relational strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Present clear rationales for FAP interventions with clients.
  • Increase your capacity for awareness and connection across diverse client identities and experiences.

Continuing Education and Technical Details

Participants who complete the training are eligible to receive 16 continuing education credits (CEs) for psychologists, as approved by the Connecticut Psychological Association. To participate fully, you will need a reliable internet connection, a webcam, and a headset with a microphone. A quiet and private space is required for discussions and experiential exercises.
